Day 1 Mesa State Camp

We had a technique session yesterday and got in 3 matches of a takedown tournament. I really like these shotgun matches. It is great for coaching. You get done with one match, give some little tips, then the guys get to try it out in a half hour. Immediate feedback. Carl Valley ran one of the technique sessions yesterday and covered almost the exact same thing I did last Sunday night. So, we've got Marty, Martin, and Cole here. It is going well. Marty is wrestling super aggressive. He had one real tough kid, that we will definitely have to put multiple moves together in a chain, but he got after him. He is pushing the pace in his matches and there is lots of action. Cole is really concentrating on positioning. Maintaining a good stance, blocking with his head, wrestling punchy with his hands--1 foot races. He had some tough draws and is wrestling up a weight, but is fighting hard. The little pointers are paying off. We saw a lot of progress in his last match. He had super defense. The guy kept shooting, Cole blocked, snapped, front head, punch through. Exactly as we are working on. Great to see. Martin is wrestling tough. Super good position. Explosive. He's beaten some really good kids at 171. He's working on the mental side most of all. He is getting more and more relaxed each match--wrestling smart and aggressive.

All the boys are pretty sore this morning. We've got 9 matches today. We got up early for breakfast, they went back to bed, and I'll get them up in 15 minutes to get the morning rolling.

It is nice to finally see some wrestling in Colorado outside of our room. There are some fantastic wrestlers here, and also a lot of posers--the same as everywhere I guess. Our boys are really fighting and representing Cedaredge well. I can't count how many times I've said to myself and to our boys how thankful I am to have them wrestling for me. So, hopefully some of you fans are reading this, and I'll try to update again tonight after some matches today.
